Dried Distillers’ Grain Solubles (DDGS)

DDGS is a healthy and highly digestible source of fundamental nutrients and energy, specifically designed for animal husbandry. Almost one-third of its constituents are proteins. The by-product remaining at the end of ethanol production gets used to manufacture DDGS. Among GrainSpan’s several measures to reduce environmental impact and mitigate waste is transforming this by-product into nutrient-rich food for domestic animals. We manufacture DDGS made from rice as well as corn.

Applications: Everyday nutrition for cattle, horses, pigs, fish, poultry, pets and other ruminant animals.

Why DDGS is better than regular animal feed?

There are multiple reasons as to why DDGS is preferable over regular animal feed.

1

The rising demand for renewable energy boosts biofuel production, whose by-products are nutrient-rich alternatives.

2

Massive amounts of the by-product generated during ethanol distillation pose environmental challenges if not utilized effectively. An eco-friendly solution is to process the by-product into DDGS, which can serve as livestock feed.

3

DDGS is highly nutritious as the energy and protein content of the by-product remain intact. Only the starch portion of the rice and corn kernels gets converted to ethanol.

4

It is specifically beneficial for dairy cows, where it prevents postpartum paralysis, provides high-fat content, and mitigates rumen acidosis due to its high fiber content.

5

DDGS can replace soybean meal in cow feed with an optimal inclusion of 10-15% dry matter, lowering methane emissions and feed costs.

6

The uptake of DDGS as animal feed significantly aids in mitigating environmental impact as the distillation by-product has the potential for being transformed into a new product.

Over the past several years, DDGS has become one of the most economically and nutritionally competitive sources of animal nutrition available on the world feed market.
